Here is another sad story from Australia and again so if you are wondering where this country is currently at in terms of racism and a multiculturalism then I assure you then it still rather backwards.
'White Australia' still has problems with Asian people socializing and gathering, apparently they feel threatened by it they have managed to use a bit of their imagination to link Asians gatherings with crime in such a way that would give them the right to ban Asians from social events would stop Gang violence.
Hello, someone sound the Asian civil rights violation alarms, wait a minute... what civil rights? this doesn't exist in Australia since racism is still wide spread where ethnic people are still treated like second class citizens socially and politically. It's just taking far too long for someone to recognize this problem.
Asian Australians should really voice out and just send that big clue to the ignorant majority because in my opinion there is nothing wrong with Asian people coming together to socialize and it does not affect them in anyway. There have been hundreds of nightly events without gangs involved.
Many commenter's on this article seem to be rather upset at Asian people coming together for Asian party.
Perhaps the majority are too used to being at the centre of the world. Or they still don't understand what it really means to be multicultural.
The media certainly does not help much with societies issues when they do not represent the real issues at hand and the problems that have been ignored in the Asian communities.
But guess why these decisions are always by the ignorant bodies power? maybe consider the fact that they elected by the ignorant majority? ....to be fair here, I try very hard to take note of the better few out there.
MELBOURNE needs to consider whether to ban Asian nights and other theme evenings at bars, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle says.
Cr Doyle told the Herald Sun the future of such events needed to be re-examined after several vicious confrontations linked to Asian nights this year.
Some police hold significant concerns about the race-themed nights held regularly at city venues.
Cr Doyle's comments came after brawling early on Christmas Day in which gangs of men were involved in two separate conflicts at an Asian night at the CQ Bar.
Police said about 20 people were involved in the fracas, during which men used bollards to try to break through security staff at the venue, at the corner of Queen and Little Collins streets.
"These (theme) nights can be a problem if they promote excessive drinking or if they become a magnet for rival gangs, usually of young men prone to violence," Cr Doyle said.
"It's time we look at whether they've got a future. People in Melbourne don't need an artificial excuse to come together and have fun."
In August, a group of men who had just walked from an Asian night almost killed Queensland tourist Jeff Pooler in a frenzied attack.
He is still battling to recover from his injuries.
Dozens of men fought security staff at the QBH during an Asian night in March.
One city policeman said he had never understood why, but race-based nights were frequently the source of trouble.
"It doesn't matter what nationality, by and large it will often end in tears," the officer said.
Prominent club owner Peter Ivaniuk said he did not run Asian nights at his venues but did not have a problem with them.
"The problem is with the individual. It's a small minority in each race," Mr Ivaniuk said.
Three men were charged with affray after the violence at CQ.
Two, aged 18 and 20 from Braybrook, and a Sunshine man, 21, were bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court at a date to be set. (Source:HeraldSun)
